Catch of the Day

The Quick Breakdown
-Yummy seafood.

The Atmosphere
-Fish market/seafood restaurant. You walk in and see a cooler with fresh fish and shrimp. They just changed their location so it looked like there was still a little work to be done. Don't let appearances stop you from ordering.

The Food
-The 1 fish + 6 shrimp combination platter. Served with bread, hush puppies, and french fries. The seafood was fresh and well seasoned. SOO GOOD I had to come back the next day. It's been quite a while since I have enjoyed fried fish this much.

Firehouse Subs

The Quick Breakdown
-A Superior Sub Shop. No more subway for me.

The Atmosphere
-Hoses, fire hats, axes, masks, and other firehouse memorabilia line the walls of this restaurant. A spectacular mural depicts some firefighters in action. It also incorporates the mascots of several local fire companies.

The Food
-Firehouse Steak Sub: Sauteed sirloin steak with provolone, topped with sauteed onions and bell peppers. Finally, a steak sub with REAL STEAK!!! See the hearty slices of steak in the sandwich. This sub was simply mind-blowing. A must try for cheesesteak lovers.

Tia Maria's Mexican Restuarant

-Some seriously tasty Tex-Mex in large portions

The Atmosphere
-Comfortable and friendly

The Food
-The #2 combo. Consisting of 2 beef enchiladas, 1 crispy beef taco, and chips w/salsa. The enchiladas were smothered in cheese and some delicious sauce. The salsa was fantastic.

Tan Tan

The Quick Breakdown
-The best wonton noodle soup in Houston

The Atmosphere
-Loud and busy(This is always a good sign at a Chinese restaurant). At any given moment one can hear at least four different languages being spoken.

The Food
-House Special Rice Cake. A great way to start the meal. Sliced rice cakes are pan fried with eggs and topped with dried turnip, green onions, and crispy onion. Served with a special house sauce.
-Wonton Noodle Soup. Hand made pork and shrimp wontons in soup with sliced BBQ pork, Chinese vegetable, and green onions. Your choice of egg or wide rice noodle. The wonderfully seasoned wontons and the slight crunch of the egg noodles make this the best wonton noodle soup in Houston.

-A Piccolo( 3 flavors, 1.3 pints)

The flavors I tried:
The Pistachio is quite refreshing packed with pistachio flavor.
The Fondente. Rich, dark, Belgian, and creamy a chocolate lovers dream.
The Gianduja was the luscious treat filled with hazelnuts and oozing of chocolate. Absolutely a MUST Try

Vietopia

The Quick Breakdown
-A classy and tasty Vietnamese restaurant

The Atmosphere
-Wow. Walk in and you see a beautiful coral reef aquarium. A few more steps and you see the bar with a nice plasma TV. The mood is quiet and relaxing. Vietopia is tastefully decorated with paintings and other trinkets for vietnam. It's a nice place to take that special someone in your life.

The Food
-Cha Gio(Egg rolls).served with pickled veggies, fresh lettuce, cucumbers, and fish sauce.

-Canh Chua(Vietnamese hot and sour soup). Shrimp, bean sprouts, okra, tomatoes, pineapples, basil, red jalapenos stewed in chicken broth. I really enjoyed this although it was a little on the sweet side. We thought about another order but realized that there was alot of food still on the way.

-Ca Chien Chua Ngot(Saigon Sweet and Sour Crispy Fish) Lightly tempura battered fish over a bed of salad, tomatoes, cucumbers, topped with bell peppers, onions and sweet & sour sauce. The flavors and textures mixed together was heavenly. This is a must try here!!


-Com Bo Luc Lac( Rock and Roll Beef). Tender chunks of filet minon with scallions and garlic served with a vinaigrette salad and tomatoes. This came highly recommended from our waiter. The Bo luc lac was simply AWESOME. Another must try here!

-Crispy Honey Chipotle Chicken Crispers with choice of 2 sides. Talk about a taste sensation!! Crispy white meat spiced up with yummy chipotle sauce. Sweet and spicy at the same time.

Tony's New York Pizza

The Quick Breakdown
- The Best Pizza in Houston
The Atmosphere
- A friendly pizza parlor complete with a TV, air hockey table, a couple of video game machines. Feels like you are in New York. All that's missing is a couple of loud Yankees fans.

The Food
-A pepperoni pizza with a few slices cheese only(my girls like cheese only). I haven't had a pizza like this since I've been in NYC. It's almost a religious experience. I don' care what part of town you are in it's definitely worth the trip for this pizza.




-A Gino's Cherry Italian Ice. Tony has these treats shipped down from up north. One spoonful and you know exactly why. Sweet, light, and tasty without the frozen over consistency of the supermarket Italian Ices. Again like being in NYC.

-A chopped beef sandwich. The meat was moist, tender, and full of that great smoked taste. The BBQ sauce with little minced onions was superb. Sandwich+ Sauce= To die for

- A Japanese steakhouse with some serious sushi and maki

The Atmosphere
-One step in and you smell the aroma of the hibachi grill. A couple of plasma tvs so you can check out the game.Plenty of sights, sounds, and smells to help you enjoy your food.

The Food
-California Maki: Avocado, Crabmeat, Cucumber & Smelt Eggs . A classic for the new to sushi.

-Crunch Maki: Crabmeat, Tempura Shrimp & Japanese Mayo in Tempura Crunch. Great flavor and texture in every bite.
-Mount Fuji: MakiAvocado & Smoked Salmon w/ Green Onions & Tangy Sauce. Was not crazy about this one today. Normally it's much better. The sauce was too overpowering.
-Skydiver Maki:Spider Maki w/ Avocado, Unagi on top w/ Japanese Mayo & Eel Sauce. Saved the best for last. Woohoo!!! The mix of avocado, eel, and crab was absolutely delightful.

-A friendly down-to-earth steakhouse at a friendlier price
The Atmosphere
-The full Texas experience complete with country music, a corner dedicated to Willie Nelson, people yelling YEE-HAW, birthday singing and some sort of rocking horse for the birthday victim. They even had a staff member making ballon animals for the kiddies.
The Food
-Cactus blossom, think of the outbacks blooming onion but better!! A battered sweet texas onion with subtle spicies and a wonderful dipping sauce.
-New York Strip, 12oz, tender, juicy, with a hint of seasonings, grilled exactly as ordered with beautifully pink in the center. Comes with choice of 2 sides.
-House salad comes complete with eggs, tomatoes, thick croutons,and lettuce
-Texas Chilli. Delicious with a good old fashion kick!! Topped with diced red onions and shredded cheddar cheese. The meat was overflowing with tasty chilli spicies.

What is Pho?
-Pho is served as a bowl of white rice noodles in a beef broth, with thin cuts of beef served with various mints, beansprouts, and onions.
The Atmosphere
-A cozy vietnamese family restaurant
The Food
-Pho Tai, Grilled Pork spring rolls. The pho: tender beef , broth was seasoned perfectly. The spring roll had grilled pork, rice noodles, mints and other veggies.

Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar

-Ahh seafood..Good seafood and Cheap too.

The Atmosphere
-Friendly and down to earth

The Food
-Fried shrimp and seafood gumbo. The shrimp were huge, fresh, with a cornmeal batter that was quite tasty!! Comes with fries. Seafood gumbo was equal to or better than the gumbo at Pappadeaux. Gumbo contained shrimp, crab, rice, and whatever else they put in gumbo.
